                        TODAYS TIPS

It is a good idea to warm up before each session at the driving range and game with some easy streaches
Try these exercises to loosen you up and avoid injury. Start with a brisk 3 or 5 minute walk . This will increase your blood flow and warm up some of the more important muscles you will be incorperating in your swing pattern. warm up your shoulders, back and legs by standing with your feet shoulder-width apart. Hold your club horizontaly in front of your with both hands. At the same time that you slowly crouch by bending at the knees , raise your club above your head. Return to your starting position and repete this  8 - 10 times. Next, place your club behind your back, holding it between your elbow joints. Stand with your feet shoulder width apart , twist to your
Rright , hold for 10 sec , Twist to your Left and hold for 10 sec.. Repet 2 to 3 times

    Broadmoor Golf Course

I can`t contain myself when march comes along and it is not that far from hearing the swish of the clubs and it is often I have to go out to Sherwood Park to Broadmoor Public Golf Course and try my luck at a course I have now played some 25 years . This 45 year old course is always in repair in one way or another over the past few years so it will be nice to get it finished and play this old course without any problems. Mature trees lush fairways and trying to stay down the middle give this course the easy playing ability without the throw in strong August winds we all love to see. From the back tee this 6345 yard has 4 par 5`s with 3 over 500 yards, 130 slope and 70.1 Rating. Designed by Norman Woods with tall Norwegian spruce and Poplar grace the rolling terrain, all the holes are situated within the sprawl of city living with path crisscrossing here and there and the odd road to cross which makes it all that more appealing. I always have a great game hare no matter who I get teamed up with and on this day a friendly Father son team Trevor & Henry Zlim from Sherwood Park and Fort Saskatchewan, Henry at 65 yr young was a solid golfer.Down the middle most of the time and had a canny ability to chip his ball within 2 inches if mine on the green and fringe on more than one occasion which could of had me reaching for the rule book...but what the hay, move it and play on  it was cold out,, just 15 C on this fair day with the Moon in the west and the Sun in our vision in the East , made a few holes look great, hope the cell phone camera didn`t let me down(jpeg will be added). This is always a busy course so call ahead because you`ll always want to get the time that is good for you and your party /company tournament. The Club House was being worked on and will be ready by April 2011 and this course should be good for a few years, in the last few years they also added the fescue to develop around the bunkers and they look like big time trouble if you like the day at the beach type of play. Club selection as on any course is always one of the great divides between a great game and one you just want to throw your clubs in the water...So every year always Search for a Golf Pro C.P.G.A. or C.G.T.P who can instil the solid golf habits for you to enjoy the game and see that score come down.
We were sent of the back to start and a par 5 it was ...I ran to join my playing partners and off I drove , got some warmer clothes on and grabbed the bag and searched for my ball on the second shot I just realized I had 4 drivers in the bag from the Big brothers Big sisters Drive with the Pro Fund Raiser , so it was playing with my irons and I had to adjust in a hurry , the wind was 15 to 20 miles per hour and the rough was deep so I’ll let you know now I did have a few chip outs back to the fairway after having my club face swallowed by the wet grass and wishing I had my 4 rescue and 3 wood, that little morning mistake cost me at least 6 strokes on the day, to my surprise I was on the fringe with 20 yrds and took the 52 wedge and in the hole for par .
The Zlim twosome also came up with some pretty good chip shots in the next few holes from 80 and 60 yrds respectively to lie 2 to 3 inches from the hole. The 17th hole was 352 from the tips and with the wind a solid drive left me 42 yrds in and I saw birdie in my sights, well it was in to the packet to get a Big hankie for the Bogie that developed..Got to love this game hands weren’t working well with the putter on this cold day so there went another few shots out the window and ballooned the score card. Long par 5 with slopes to the right and deep rough made this course a fine challenge and there was the odd time we lost a ball just off the fairway even after all of us seeing where it went, Not any water on the back but the brush is thick and lost balls are all over the place so I was ahead a few balls by the end of the round.
The front had a good choice of dog legs and greens over water so really I felt playing the back first really helped to lengthen the arms and warm up for the next 9 holes
Back was 39 and Front 41 shot 80 over 6037 yrds with a 122 /68.8 .This course was in great shape and the service has always been excellent, Hats off to the  Trent Wright CPGA Executive Professional & Brett Fraser CPGA Head Professional  & Bob Onyschuk  CGSA Superintendant His crew had the  greens in great shape, with  all the rain we have had and the amount of trees that have been blown over has been a challenge to this crew of hard working band of lads and ladies that keep this course in top shape..My Rating for this course 96%.Everything is done well
